March 2017 | Election of Management Committees of all Sunyata Meditation Associations and Practice Communities
In accordance with the constitution of the Sunyata Meditation Association, elections will be held for the 2017-2019 term of the office of chairperson of Sunyata Meditation Association branches (if an association has been formed) or Sunyata Meditation Practice Communities (if an association has not been formed) in all locations. Election process: candidates can nominate themselves. In the case where there are no self-nominating candidates, the meeting will nominate at least two candidates. Voting then takes place by secret ballot. Eligibility: students need to have completed the Fundamental Meditation course and have regularly attended practice community meetings to be eligible for being a candidate, a nominee or a voter. Result: voting is adjudicated by simple majority of the vote. The association or practice community chairperson-elect will then make appointments to other positions on the management committee such as: secretary, treasurer, heads of sub-committees, etc. without the need for voting. However, if an appointment is questioned by one or more students, then a voting by secret ballot is organized for this position to ensure consensus. Outgoing chairperson or management committee members are all eligible to stand for re-election as they have done good work in their current term of office. Minutes of the election meeting are to be provided by the secretary to the central office during the month of April. The results of the election are only considered valid once they have been approved. The term of the new management committees starts on 1 May 2017. |
