Sanskrit word literally meaning action, work or deed. Refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and action of an individual (cause) influence the future of the individual (effect) in this life or a future life.
Buddhism identifies three types of karma: intention karma generated by thoughts, speech karma generated by spoken words and bodily karma generated by physical actions.
